  4. the Romans (AD 66-72). After withstanding a
  5. year-long seige, the Hebrew population of 953
  6. committed mass suicide rather than be
  7. conquered and enslaved. The site was
  8. excavated 1963-65, including the palace of
  9. Herod, and is now an Israeli national
  10. monument.
